This one-day symposium will highlight evidence-based strategies aimed at addressing the severe and chronic problem of caries among Filipinos. Learn updates from Dr. Fenella on prenatal care for the Mom and for child until 2 years of age (the first 1000 days), which is the critical period when good oral health begins. Dr. Ryan will discuss infection control within the context of emergency treatment in community-based settings (Oral Urgent Treatment or OUT), a mandatory procedure especially with the rise of HIV cases all over the country. Dr. Noel will tackle appropriate technologies in addressing small to deep caries, specifically the use of glass ionomer sealants for pits and fissures, surface protection for smooth surface caries and other uses of fluoride toothpaste in arresting lesions through Ultra Conservative Treatment (UCT), which was introduced by Dr. Jo Frencken. Dr. Prathip will discuss the Simple and Modified Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (SMART) through partial caries removal and the use of glass ionomers for primary teeth.
